(2) The VERITAS Collaboration–see S.P.Wakely's paper " The VERI-TAS Prototype " from these proceedings for affiliations Abstract To date three plerionic systems have been detected as emitters of very energetic photons. As part of an ongoing study of pulsar systems at the Whipple observatory, observations of the plerion PSR B1823-13 are being conducted. Observations were made with the Whipple 10 m gamma-ray telescope utilizing the high resolution, 490 pixel camera.

X-ray and optical observations of the closest isolated radio pulsar
With a parallactic distance of 170 pc, PSR J2144–3933 is the closest isolated radio pulsar currently known. It is also the slowest (P= 8.51 s) and least energetic (Ėrot = 2.6×1028 erg s−1) radio pulsar; its radio emission is difficult to account for with standard pulsar models, since the position of PSR J2144−3933 in the period–period derivative diagram is far beyond the typical radio ‘death li...
متن کاملVery High-Energy Gamma-Ray Observations of PSR B1509 58 with the CANGAROO 3.8m Telescope
The gamma-ray pulsar PSR B1509 58 and its surrounding nebulae have been observed with the CANGAROO 3.8m imaging atmospheric Cerenkov telescope. The observations were performed from 1996 to 1998 in Woomera, South Australia, under di erent instrumental conditions with estimated threshold energies of 4.5 TeV (1996), 1.9 TeV (1997) and 2.5 TeV (1998) at zenith angles of 30 . Although no strong evid...
متن کاملDeep optical observations of the fields of two nearby millisecond pulsars with the VLT
We report on deep VLT observations of the fields of two nearby, isolated millisecond pulsars PSR J1744-1134 and PSR J1024-0719. Both objects are old neutron stars with characteristic age τ ≥ 10 yr and have relatively high spin-down flux. They have been detected earlier as X-ray sources by ROSAT HRI observations and were considered good candidates for non-thermal emission in the optical bands. O...
متن کاملA pr 1 99 8 TeV gamma rays from PSR 1706 - 44
Observations made with the University of Durham Mark 6 atmospheric Čerenkov telescope confirm that PSR B1706-44 is a very high energy γ-ray emitter. There is no indication from our dataset that the very high energy γ-rays are pulsed, in contrast to the findings at < 20 GeV, which indicate that more than 80% of the flux is pulsed. The flux at E > 300 GeV is estimated to be (3.9±0.7stat)×10 −11 c...
متن کاملChandra and Rxte Studies of the X-ray/γ-ray Millisecond Pulsar Psr J0218+4232
We report on high-resolution spatial and timing observations of the millisecond pulsar PSR J0218+4232 performed with the Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO) and the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE). With these observations we were able to study a) the possible spatial extent at X-ray energies of the DC source coincident with PSR J0218+4232 in detail (CXO), b) the relative phasing between the X-ra...
